Definition: Sub-fund

ECB terminology

Specify a separate class or designation of unit within a fund which invests in a separate pool or portfolio of investments. A "sub-fund" is also known as a "compartment". Each sub-fund constitutes an autonomous and specialised establishment. Specialisation may relate to a particular financial instrument or a given market.
