Definition: Enumeration area (EA)

Uusually the smallest geographic unit for which census information is aggregated, compiled and disseminated. An enumeration area is defined by boundaries described on a sketch map or in a GIS database. These boundaries may or may not be visible on the ground. Also called census block or census tract.
