Definition: Government unit


Government units are unique kinds of legal entities established by political processes that have legislative, judicial or executive authority over other institutional units within a given area (SNA 2008, § 4.9, 4.117 and 22.17).

This definition is used both in SNA 1993 and in SNA 2008. United Nations,
