Definition: Rootzone system (horizontal flow) (independent secondary waste water treatment)

Treatment system in which the waste water is led horizontally through the rootzone of a flooded field covered with helophytes. Feeding of waste water is continuous.  Pollution is removed by (physical) filtration and biological breakdown.
